Disc Connected Records - www.DCRTunes.com

Disc Connected Records is committed to becoming one of Canada’s top independent urban record labels and multimedia companies.

President/Executive Producer - John Bortolotti

John’s love and appreciation of urban music started at an early age. “Rap music was born when I was”, muses Bortolotti. While a lot of his friends were growing up in love with rock music, John could relate better with rap in grade school. “During school, they would have listening time set aside in class where we could bring music - I brought Public Enemy. They sent me home with a note for my mom criticizing my selection. The teacher felt rap was negative and a bad influence on me. After that, I was hooked.”

During John’s high school years his love of urban music grew with the discoveries of the classics and the Motown sound. “I could start to hear about the legends that emcees were rhyming about - James Brown, Michael Jackson, Curtis Mayfield. It made me search out the sounds of these artists. I must of played Michael Jackson's Thriller about a million times."

Another big motivational factor for John was seeing Kardinal Offishall come out of his high school. “When Kardinal came out of my school and became successful in the rap game - it made me realize that it was possible in Canada. Hip-Hop could work north of the border.”

Inspired by the Motown business model and fueled by an entrepreneurial spirit. Bortolotti started his own record label in 2003. Disc Connected Records was to bring together talented beat producers, MC’s, and singers under one roof. John recognized a ton of talent existed in the underground clubs and MC battlegrounds ñ what lacked was the machine to successfully record and promote these acts. John would build the machine. “Our studio’s computers and producers are my Funk Brothers.” says Bortolotti.

John traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to find his first emcee, Feziek. John would bring Feziek north to Canada to record him debut album. Released in 2005, Feziek’s “Rise and Shine” is generating buzz and getting spins from college radio.

John looks to build DCR into one of Canada’s top independent urban labels and multimedia companies. He remains committed to the development and nurturing of urban artists.

During 2006, John produced the feature length documentary, The Toronto Rap Project. Collaborating with director Richard Budman, the documentary looks at the indie rap scene in Toronto. The documentary premiered to enthusiastic audiences at the Reelworld Film Festival where it went on to capture two awards. An accompanying soundtrack was released on Disc Connected Records during April, 2006.

Bortolotti is currently overseeing the production of R.O.T’s debut album scheduled to drop in the fall of 2006.
